There are many articles available online highlighting benefits of using Indian toilets, but unfortunately, urban planners have bridle over their eyes and spend lavishly to install western toilets in public places.
Can confidently say that majority of Indian population do not know how to use western toilets, it is mostly awkward for common adult to ask someone about how to use it, so he uses the best way he knows, it becomes even more worst when it is unisex toilets like in train.
There is an assumed notion that common man in India prefers western toilet, ideally western toilet should be available for senior citizens, for people have leg or knee ailment or people who should not strain like those with heart ailments. Otherwise, a healthy individual should be provided with Indian toilet for a healthier future.
Swachbharat abhiyaan should ensure, public toilets have both options, predominantly Indian where there is a complex with multiple lavatory, swachbharat with Fit India movement should promote India toilet as much as possible.
Indian toilet is easy to use and clean. Citizens are aware of how to use it and this awareness will help in keeping the public toilets cleaner. This will also be helpful in reducing unwarranted spread of disease to those who are using it.
“Indian toilets have a drawback . it can’t be used for urinal purpose with standing posture. Whereas in western one it can be used for both”, say many . Both have gems spreading and breeding hub if not maintained properly and on hygienic manner by flushing after every use and using sanitizers.
Public toilets run by government, especially railways, should consider having a dedicated toilet for women as they suffer due to dirty toilets during travel. Lets deal with the dirty business in the earnest way to address the issue that is the primary cause for many health problems.
