Sookshmadarshini Vs Anand Sreebala – Crime thriller genre on OTT

Swaraat Editor Desk

In the cacophony of myriads of crime thriller movies, which seems to be the flavor of all seasons for over a couple of years, a well-scripted movie has lost its rightful place. In the OTT release war, the prominence scored by a movie due to its lead actor has denied another movie it’s due. Though sookshmadarshini is gripping enough, but heavy feminism and DEI content makes it less relished. Nazriya and Basil carry the entire weight of the movie on their shoulders to botch up a sloppy script.

Whodunnit and how is the essence of the recent crime thriller flix, sookshmadarshini is an average movie with an eerie similarity to Kishkintha kandam with respect to two aged characters in the movie. There are not many memorable scenes that will make the movie stay in audience psyche for long.

The less promoted but a surprisingly refreshing crime thriller that one may invest time to watch is Anand Sreebala. Intelligent, gripping yet sentimental and emotional makes the movie very interesting to watch. A cover-up of a crime is tactfully unravelled with one knot at a time and leaving no loose ends to drop audience high and dry makes it appreciable. The race between audience and the scriptwriter, where the latter keeps the audience guessing at every checkpoint is a hallmark of a well written movie script.

A parallel investigation between cops and the protagonist to highlight the difference in the approach has been well picturized. Re-introduction of actress Sangeetha after so many years is a feel-good factor. Casting has been commendable; one single fight scene makes it realistic and background score compliments the movie well. If you are a movie buff and feed on OTT, Anand Sreebala is a perfect dish for the weekend.
