A fanbase that was envied by rival teams ended up showing their loyalty with life. Official figures of eleven precious lives lost in stampede comes as a rude shock, but in retrospective, lessons were not learnt, even after few such incidents in the recent past.
They waited for eighteen long years to watch their team win, but couldn’t keep their emotions in check, when RCB attained the glory, it turned out to be gory for a few of them.
In the aftermath, few heads started to roll with Commissioner of Police suspended. Chief Minister of Karnataka has ordered the arrest of few cricket officials and event management. Ex-gratia of 10 lakhs have been announced for those died in the stampede.
IPL management said that they had no role in the roadshow programme. The blamegame and fixing responsibility has started and it may continue till the issue stays relevant.
Police department claim that they did not give permission for the event initially. There are several possible reasons doing round for conducting such a large-scale event at the heel of the culmination of the tournament, one such possible reason could be that some of the foreign players have been brought back at short notice to complete the event and also upcoming cricket series for some players.
An enquiry commission is being setup to study the cause that led to the stampede. Central government should seriously consider creating a taskforce to advise and supervise crowd management for large-scale events and include officials involved in MahaKumbh, Isha Shivaratri or Puri Rath Yatra.
But there is one lesson for all supporters of a cricketer or a movie star or a franchise, entertainment should not turn into fanatic following that can often misguide one to lose their sense and jeoparize ones own life or others.
