‘Pant’om’s Bull Run – The league of extraordinary glovemen

Of the eleven, there can be ‘n’ of combinations but there is only one slot for wicketkeeper in every cricket team. Most of the team, choose a wicketkeeper, who can bat a bit. There have been exceptional keepers like Adam Gilchrist, Brendom McCullum, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who have excelled in batting as well. But in the one forty eight years of history of test cricket, there have been only one player who scored a century in both the innings of a match until the Pantom of cricket chose to join the league of Andy Flower.

Rishab Pant, one of the chief architect of Indian series victory in downunder Australia in the famous 2021 series, literally came under fire and rose like a phoenix. A common man pulled him out of a burning car to save the legacy of one of the finest daredevil cricketer of our times. He came under the scanner for his form during the India Vs New Zealand home series and India Vs Australia away series. But he chose to respond to his critics in style by scoring a century in each innings of the first test between India and England in the ongoing Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy.

Though india lost the first test match, there has been lots of positive for the team to go to the next match in Edgbaston. Jaiswal, Rahul and Shubman each scored a century in the first test, they have acclimatised to the condition and are expected to do well in the series. Pant, the current vice captain of the team is also in form of his life. Bumrah is speculated to be rested for the second test. The bowling unit has to deliver and the team has to improve in fielding drastically.

England won the first test, but they do not have the service of Broad and Anderson anymore. Headingley had a flaccid pitch, key batsmen from both the teams made merry. How much impact English bowlers will make in second test with the likes of Chris Woakes, Brydon Carse and Josh Tongue with new ball needs to be seen.

Josh Tongue accounted for the tail in both the innings, the crucial difference between the teams, that helped England win with just fifteen overs left in the test match. Hopefully the tail can wag a tad bit longer in the rest of the series to match up with England. The new, young team with loads of talent needs the backing to become #1 test team yet again. Lets cheer for the boys in blue.
